BIG EAST GAME PREVIEW: Connecticut @ Georgetown
March 3, 2007
Georgetown looks to sew up at least a share of the Big East regular season championship when they host Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. Georgetown saw their 11-game Big East win streak end on Monday night in Syracuse, allowing them to slip back into a tie for 1st place with Pittsburgh. Connecticut dropped another excruciating game on Wednesday when they missed 20 free throws and saw Scottie Reynolds drop 40 points on them in a loss to Villanova.
Georgetown is a tough match-up for the Huskies because Roy Hibbert, Jeff Green and Dajuan Summers match-up very well height-wise with the UConn frontline of Hasheem Thabeet, Jeff Adrien and Stanley Robinson. The athletic ability of the Connecticut guards is likely to cause some trouble for the Hoyas, but the experience and streuctured system and game that Georgetown plays will likely wear down the Huskies and capitalize on every opportunity afforded the Hoyas. To beat Georgetown you have to be extremely effecient offensively, and the Huskies certainly are not that type of team at this stage of their development.
If Connecticut can turn this into a ragged affair, they will have a shot, but once Georgetown settles into their offense and forces Connecticut into the halfcourt on offense and defense, the game becomes Georgetown's without a doubt.
