Jim Calhoun has done it once again for the class of 2006 landing late-blooming big man, all 7'2 of him, Hasheem Thabeet of Cypress Community Christian in Texas to his recruiting haul for the class of 2006. The last time that Calhoun took a chance on a lesser-known prospect out of the state of Texas it turned out pretty well as Emeka Okafor led UConn to a national title.

With Thabeet's commitment, we now list Connecticut with a roster of 14 players for 2006-2007. However, it is looking more and more that Josh Boone is determined to stay in the NBA draft, although it sounds like much of the advice he is receiving urges him to return. Yet, it still is most likely, with his size and ability to get up and down the floor, that he will go later in round one. If Boone was to come back, then Gavin Edwards, another less-heralded recruit, could be a prep school candidate to get stronger and mature.

In any event, this leaves the Huskies with just one scholarship for the class of 2007. Sure, when you bring in a class of (possibly) eight with Thabeet, Edwards, Jonathan Mandeldove, Curtis Kelly, Ben Eaves, Stanley Robinson, Jerome Dyson and Doug Wiggins, the odds are someone gets squeezed out because of playint time. However, the Huskies have done a good job of bringing in players with varying skills that match up with the 5-member sophomore class in AJ Price, Marcus Johnson, Jeff Adrien, Craig Austrie and Rob Garrison. However, the truth remains, everyone wants to play and with 13 players concentrated in two classes, that is a tough rotation to sort out.

As for players in 2007, right now, the Huskies await word on Corey Stokes of St. Benedict's in New Jersey. He also is considering Villanova as a leader with UConn, and the Wildcats are also pushed to the max in available room. It will be interesting to follow the Huskies on the recruiting trail this year. Not much room at the inn.
